VigintiDix Design Prize
We can't tell you for sure why a city works. In our travels the cities that seem to work have a common theme. That theme is a unified, flowing look and feel. Instead of parts and parts, it seems a good working city thinks of itself as a whole. Not just as individuals, not just for a short-sighted gain. We'd like to see Austin head in that direction.
We do not know exactly what "it is" that works. We, perhaps, have a good idea of what works (to develop a whole community) and a better idea of what does not work.
The VigintiDix Design Prize is to be awarded on a quarterly basis to an individual or organization that, while working on a project, thinks of our community as a whole. They may have one project or several. They may do it for free or for a livelihood. They may build or teach or quietly and solidly preach the benefits of a whole community.
The core team wishes to be anonymous. Collaborators, guest curators and non-bias sponsors will be added in the future. We are not against individual thinking or individuals. We kinda like "weird" and fun. We're opposed to the mediocre and copycats. We're opposed the dumbing down, make a buck, get mine and who cares about the rest attitude that seems to prevail. We believe you can make money AND be a part in a good, well designed community.

By the way, it's Latin and French for 2010.
